- Hypersensitivity to phenothiazines.
- Do not use in cases of coma or in the presence of large amounts of central nervous system depressants (alcohol, barbiturates, and narcotics) and treatment of bone marrow tumors.
Side Effects
Extrapyramidal symptoms may occur as a secondary effect of using thioridazine, including:

Precautions
Avoid most psychiatric medications during pregnancy unless absolutely necessary, and breastfeeding is not recommended during treatment.
Patients are advised not to drive or operate machinery during the first few days of Neurazine treatment.
Use with caution in the following cases: the elderly, debilitated patients, patients with a history of liver and bile disorders, in the presence of leukopenia, arteriosclerosis, cardiovascular diseases, or other conditions in which a sudden drop in blood pressure is undesirable.
Do not use antipsychotic drugs to treat dementia-related psychosis.
Because elderly patients with dementia-related psychosis who are treated with antipsychotic drugs are at an increased risk of death.
Use During Pregnancy
Non-teratogenic effects
Newborn infants exposed to antipsychotic drugs during the third trimester of pregnancy are at risk for extrapyramidal and/or withdrawal symptoms following delivery. There have been reports of agitation, hypertonia, hypotonia, tremor, somnolence, respiratory distress and feeding disorder in these infants. These complications have varied in severity; while in some cases symptoms have been self-limited, in other cases infants have required intensive care unit support and prolonged hospitalization.
Chlorpromazine hydrochloride should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus.
