Levocol capsules – Broad spectrum anti-bacterial

Composition

Each capsule contains 250 mg. L. chloramphenicol.

Indications

• Drug of choice in acute infections caused by Salmonella typhi and paratyphi A and B.
• Enterobacteriaceae.
• Haemophilus influenza infections especially meningeal infections.
• Gall bladder and biliary tract infections.
• Urinary tract infections.
• Gynaecological infections.
• Brucellosis and psittacosis.
• whooping cough.
• G-ve such as meningitis and N. gonorrhoea.

Precautions

• Not used for long periods unless in cases resistant to other antibiotics as it may cause bleeding either due to bone marrow depression or inhibition of vitamin K synthesis.
• Reduce the dose in patients with impaired liver functions.

Dosage

15-20 mg./kg. of B.wt. daily in divided doses, do not exceed 3 gm. daily.

Package

• Pack of 12 capsules in 2 strips, each of 6 capsules.
• Pack of 1002 capsules in 167 strips, each of 6 capsules (hospital pack).

Storage

• Store at temperature not exceeding 30°C.
• Keep in dry place, protect from light.
• Keep out of reach of children.
