Pharmacodynamic properties

Lamifen tablet: Terbinafine hydrochloride is a synthetic allylamine which has a broad spectrum of activity against fungal pathogens of the skin, hair and nails including Dermatophytes, Microsporum, Epidermophyton floccosum, Yeasts and Pityrosporum.

Terbinafine hydrochloride: is fungicidal or fungistatic against yeasts depending on the species. Terbinafine hydrochloride: acts by inhibiting squalene epoxidase, thus blocking the biosynthesis of ergostero an essential component of fungal cell membrane. This leads to a deficiency in ergosterol and to accumulation of squalene resulting in fungal cell death.

When given orally, the drug concentrates in the skin, hair and nails at levels associated with fungicidal activity. When given topically, the drug has rapid onset of action & can be effective with short treatment duration.
