Cefaxim Vial – Third-generation cephalosoporin antibiotic

Composition

• Cefaxim 1 gm vial: contains 1000 mg Cefotaxime sodium.
• Cefaxim 0.5 gm vial: contains 500 mg cefotaxime sodium.

Uses and Dosage

Cefotaxime is active against both gram + ve and gram-ve bacteria.

USES	DOSAGE
Urinary tract infections.	2-4 gm. Daily.
Respiratory tract infections.	2-4 gm. Daily.
Septicemia & endocarditis.	3-6 gm. daily for 8-17 days.
Gynaecological infections.	2-6 gm. daily for 4 15 days.
gonococcal infection.	0.5 – 1 gm. given by I.M route
Intra-abdominal infections.	4-6 gm./day
Soft tissue infections.	2-4 gm. Daily.
Bone & joint infections.	2 gm. Daily.
Infections due to multi-resistant organism as bacteremia, E.coli & proteus	2-4 gm. Daily.
Infections in immuno-compromised patients	2-4 gm. Daily.

Precaution

• It should not be given in pregnancy and lactation.
• dosage should be adjusted in in renal failure.

Package

• Cefaxim 1 gm. vial: Pack of one vial + one ampoule of 4 ml. sterile water.
• Cefaxim 0.5 gm vial: Pack of one vial + one ampoule of 2 ml. sterile water.

Storage

• Store at temperature not exceeding 30°C.
• Keep in dry place, protect from light.
• Keep out of reach of children.
