Dosage

Brufen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that is used to relieve pain, reduce fever, and treat inflammation. Here are some general guidelines for dosage of Brufen Suspension:

Children Dosage

For children: the usual dose for children is 20-30 mg/kg of body weight divided into 3 or 4 doses per day. Brufen Suspension can be given as follows:

  • 3-12 months (5-10 kg): 2.5 ml, 2-3 times a day
  • 1-2 years (10-15 kg): 2.5 ml, 3-4 times a day
  • 3-7 years (15-25 kg): 5 ml, 3-4 times a day
  • 8-12 years (25-40 kg): 10 ml, 3-4 times a day

*For 3-12 months children – after vaccination: 2.5- 5 ml in a single dose or two doses (for 24 hours only after vaccination).

Adult Dosage

For adults and children over 12 years old: the usual dose is 20- 30 ml, 3 times a day.

Special Population Dosage

For elderly patients (over 65 years old): The same dose as adults , with a note that elderly patients are more susceptible to the side effects of the drug, including stomach pain, ulcers, high blood pressure, kidney problems, and difficulty performing mentally alert activities safely.

For patients with renal impairment: The body eliminates 50-60% of the oral dose of Brufen through the kidneys, so the dose should be reduced in patients with moderate to severe renal impairment (the metabolism of ibuprofen is through the kidneys).

For patients with hepatic impairment: Patients with liver disease do not need to adjust the dosage of this drug.

* It is important to note that the maximum recommended dosage for Brufen Suspension is 800 mg in a single dose or 3200 mg per day, which is the upper limit for using Ibuprofen. To minimize the risk of side effects, it is recommended to take Brufen Suspension after meals, as the likelihood of experiencing adverse effects increases when taken on an empty stomach.
