Pharmacological Action

Saboctic is a potent antioxidant alpha lipoic acid which is converted after its absorption to its reduced form, dihydrolipoic acid (DHLA) in many tissues of the body.

DHLA is capable of regenerating ascorbic acid from dihydroascorbic acid, directly regenerating vitamin C and indirectly regenerating vitamin E. A lpha lipoic acid also increases intracellular glutathione and coenzyme Q10 levels.

Alpha lipoic acid appears capable of chelating ceratin metals.

Indications

Saboctic is used to improve symptoms and deficits resulting from polyneuropathy in type If diabetic patients.

Dosage

Initial dose

One tablet 600 mg daily which may be increased to three tablets (1800 mg) taken in divided doses according to the severity of the case.

Maintenance dose

According to the physician’s prescriptions and after the improvement of the case: the dose may be reduced to one tablet 300 mg daily.

In less severe cases

The patient begins with tablet 300 mg twice daily and then the dose could be reduced to 300 mg once daily.

Side Effects

Rarely, side effects may be produced as nausea and low serum iron level due to its chelating effect.

Pregnancy & lactation

Safety of Saboctic usage during pregnancy is not to be cleared, so doctor advice must be considered and also in breast feeding, as it may excreted through mother milk so caution must be considered.

Precautions & Warning

Saboctic is a chelating agent that may cause depletion in blood iron level as it may purage minérals from body.

Durg- Drug Interactions

Rarely, when diabetic patients administrated Saboctic, it may induce decrease in blood glucose level, so determination of blood glucose level must be considered.

Package & Storage

Box of two blisters, each blister contains 10 tablets. To be stored in a cool dry place, away from light, at a temperature not exceed 30°C. Keep all medicaments out of reach of children
