100 g (90 ml) Suspension of Rhinotus contains Active ingredients: 540 mg Pseudoephedrine Hcl, 24 mg Carbinoxamine, 90 mg Dextromethorphan. As cation exchange resin complexes.
Indications
Symptomatic treatment of Cough and catarrh with colds, influenza and allergic inflammation of the nasal mucosa and other air passages.
Dosage
- Unless otherwise prescribed by the physician.
- Children from 6-12 years: take 2 teaspoonfuls in the morning and evening.
- Youths over 12 years and adults: take 1 tablespoonful in the morning and evening.
- Not to be used for children under 6 years old. The dosage schedule must be strictly adhered to.
Shake before use:
Rhinotus suspension thickens considerably when left standing for some time (so-called thixotropic behavior).
This is absolutely normal and guarantees the permanent and equal distribution of the active ingredients. By shaking it vigorously before use, Rhinotus is liquefied enough to allow for exact and easy dosage.
Contra-Indications
Patients with hypertension, pheochromocytoma, disorders of thyroid function (thyrotoxicosis), narrow angle glaucoma and prostatic affections (adenoma) with residual urine formation, hypersensitivity to the active ingredients, and concomitant treatment with MAO inhibitors should not take Rhinotus.
Rhinotus should be used carefully in case of severe organic alterations of the heart and vessels as well as dysrhythmia, asthma, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, hepatic diseases or diseases of the thyroid.
Pregnancy And Lactation
Before an application during pregnancy or lactation, the benefits have to be weighed carefully against the risk in each case.
Side Effects
- Gastrointestinal complaints, nausea, dryness of the mouth, vomiting, heart burn, and anorexia. palpitations, arrhythmia, and blood pressure increase.
- Disturbances in central nervous system, nervousness, agitation, trembling, and headache may occur. Older patients may present with a state of central agitation in case of overdosage.
- Allergic hypersensitivity reactions. Impaired vision or induction of glaucoma, feeling of anginal pain, and complaints in micturition.
- Changes in the blood picture are noticed very rarely.
- May cause softening of the stool due to presence of Sorbitol.
Warning
Hepatic Patient
Rhinotus suspension shouldn’t be used with hepatic patient due to presence of saccharine as it may cause rise in liver enzymes even in small doses.
Over Dosage
If too high amounts of Rhinotus were taken (intentional or inadvertent Overdosage), Immediately inform a doctor who can institute the necessary measures.
Treatment Of Overdosage
Gastric lavage is first recommended in patients with acute overdosage. Then, if sympathomimetic adverse reactions occur a sympatholytic drug, diazepam or short acting I.V. Barbiturate in patients with cramps. In patients with respiratory paralysis, Intubation and artificial respiration; the morphine antagonist levallorphan must not be administered as it has no detoxicant effects and may potentiate the present respiratory depression.

Rhinotus acts on the troublesome and distressing symptoms of cough and catarrh associated with colds. The double action of Rhinotus makes treatment much easier for patients.
The carefully balanced components particularly soothe the unproductive and exhausting cough by sedating the cough center; they inhibit the increased secretion of mucous and have a favorable influence on allergic processes in the inflamed mucosa.
The drug reduces the swelling of the irritated mucosa of the nose and restores free nasal breathing. The effect and thus relief of the symptoms occurs within a short period of time.
Drug Interactions
- Concomitant use of centrally sedating drugs and/or alcohol may potentiate their activity. The sympathomimetic effect may be enhanced when guanethidine is taken simultaneously.
- The simultaneous ingestion of halothane may cause disorders of cardiac rhythm.
