Composition

Pilocarpine nitrate 1% or 2%

Pharmacological Action

Pilocarpine nitrate is a parasympathomimetic agent with primarily the muscarinic effects of acetylcholine, resulting in the reduction of intraocular pressure.

Pilocarpine reaches its effect in 10-30 minutes after application. The reduction usually persists for 4-14 hours.

Indications

Closed-angle glaucoma as a definitive treatment or prior to surgery
Open-angle glaucoma
To counteract the mydriatic effects of sympathomimetic agents

Contraindications

Iridocyclitis

Side Effects

In rare cases, it may produce symptoms of ciliary spasm.

Dosage

Unless otherwise prescribed by the physician, the normal dose is 1-2 drops in each eye 1-2 times daily.

Dropper bottle of 15 ml 1% or 2%.
