How to use novalgin 500 mg – solution for injection?

The dosage depends on the intensity of pain or fever and the individual response to Novalgin-500mg solution for injection. The dose of Novalgin – solution for injection can be tailored according to the age or body weight.

Using Novalgin 500mg-solution for injection is determined by your doctor. The following recommendations should be observed. Basically, the lowest dose sufficient to control pain and fever should be selected.

For children with fever, a dose of 10 mg per kg of body weight of Metamizole is usually sufficient. A significant effect can be expected within 30 minutes after administration.

For children and adolescents under 14 years of age, a single dose of 8 to 16 mg Metamizole sodium per kilogram of body weight is given.

Adults and adolescents over 15 years (>53 kg) can be given up to 1000 mg per single dose.

In case of inadequate effect, the respective single dose, depending on the maximum daily dose may be given up to four times a day.

Parenteral administration is usually given as a single dose of 6 mg to 16 mg/kilogram of body weight of Metamizole.

Infants three months up to one year of age are to be given Novalgin by intramuscular injection only.

Since a dose-dependent drop in blood pressure may occur after injection, the use of more than 1 g of Novalgin 500mg for injection in a single dose must be strictly assessed.

Elderly: In elderly patients, the dose should be reduced due to delayed elimination of the metabolic products of Novalgin 500mg-solution for injection.

Route of administration

Novalgin 500mg solution for intravenous or intramuscular injection, is exclusively administered by intramuscular route in infants.

Intramuscular injections should always be performed using a body-warm solution. Novalgin-500mg solution for injection may be mixed or diluted in 5% glucose, 0.9% saline or Ringer’s lactate solution. However, since such compounds have limited stability, they must be infused immediately.

Parenteral administration of Novalgin should be performed under careful medical supervision and patients must be in a lying position, to minimize the risk of a serious drop in blood pressure.

To ensure that the injection can be discontinued at the first sign of a hypersensitivity reaction, the intravenous injection of Novalgin should be done very slowly, i.e. no faster than 1 ml (or 0.5 g Metamizole) per minute.

Duration of treatment: The duration of treatment depends on the nature and severity of the disease and is determined by your doctor. It is recommended that painkillers are not used for more than 3 to 5 days, without consulting a doctor.
