Cough Rest syrup contains multi-ingredient formula that used for the treatment, control, prevention, & improvement of Cough and Chest congestion. Cough Rest syrup provides effective temporary relief of cough associated with common cold and other respiratory infections. Recommended adults and children (12 years and over): 10 ml per dose, 4 times a day. Do not exceed the stated dose and do not take more frequently than every 6 hours. Do not use for longer than 7 days without asking the doctor. Always use the lowest effective dose to relieve the symptoms.
Composition

Each 100 ml syrup contains: Active Ingredients:
- Oxomemazine 0.033 gm – New synthetic antihistamine, phenothiazine derivative, which also possesses sedative properties.
- Glyceryl guaiacolate 0.666 gm – An antiseptic of the respiratory tract with expectorant activity.
- Sodium benzoate 0.666 gm – A mucolytic agent which fluidizes bronchial secretions.
- Paracetamol 0.666 gm – An antipyretic and analgesic component.
Inactive Ingredients:
- Sorbitol 70% 13 gm.
- Sucrose 30 gm.
- Carmoisine colour 0.06 gm.
- Purified Water to 100 ml.
Pharmaceutical form : syrup.
Mechanism of action
A combination in syrup form, based on an original formula of a very powerful antitussive agent. The pleasant flavor of the excipient makes it easy for children to take good tolerance in children as well as in adults.
Pharmacokinetics
- Glyceryl Guaiacolate is absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. It is metabolized and then excreted in the urine.
- The benzoates are absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and conjugated with glycine in the liver to form hippuric acid, which is rapidly excreted in the urine.
Indications
Cough, whatever its nature: spasmodic, inflammatory, or reflex… Cough due to the following conditions :
- Infections of the upper respiratory tract (rhinopharyngitis, laryngitis, tracheitis).
- Irritation of the respiratory tract by vapours or gases, excessive smoking, …etc.
- Whooping-cough.
- Whooping-cough-like night cough, emetic coughs.
- Respiratory allergies, chronic bronchorrhoea, bronchospastic bouts in asthma.
- Acute, subacute or chronic bronchitis and tracheobronchitis.
- Chronic respiratory insufficiency and emphysema.
- Broncho-pulmonary cancer with bronchial irritation syndrome.
- Acute or subacute pneumopathies, either infectious or viral, acute dyspneic pneumopathies.
- Chronic pneumopathies.
Dosage & Administration
The average daily dosage is as follows:
- Children: under 1 year: 1 to 2 teaspoonfuls.
- Children: From 1 to 4 years: 2 to 4 teaspoonfuls.
- Children: Over 4 years: 3 to 5 teaspoonfuls.
- Adults: 1 to 2 teaspoonfuls and more if necessary 2 to 3 times daily. When coughing occurs mostly at night, increase the evening dose.
Side effects
- Gastrointestinal discomfort, nausea, and vomiting have occasionally been reported with Glyceryl Guaiacolate , particularly in very large doses.
- Hypersensitivity: Respiratory reactions to benzoates may occur, especially in patients susceptible to aspirin-induced asthma.
Contraindications
- Glyceryl Guaiacolate is considered to be unsafe in patients with porphyria because it has been shown to be porphyrinogenic in animals.
- Not used in diabetic patients.
- This drug is definitely contraindicated in children less than 2 years of age, and also it is prohibited to be used in children less than 6 years without medical supervision.

- Carton box contains glass bottle 120 ml and insert leaflet.
- Store at temperature not exceeding 30°C , in dry place.
