The analgesic and anti-inflammatory action of Algason makes this cream particularly indicated in cases of pain in the joints, limbs and muscles, rheumatism, lumbago, sciatica, arthritis, tennis elbow, gout, stiff neck, neuralgia, dislocations, sprains, bruises and muscle pain.
Composition
Each 100 g cream contains the following active ingredients:
- Diethyiamine salicylate 10.0 gm.
- Menthol 2.5 gm.
- Camphor 1.4 gm.
Therapeutic indications
For symptomatic relief of muscular aches and pains, including fibrositis, sciatica, lumbago, sprained ligaments, bruises, muscle stiffness strains. Also, relief of pains caused by over-excertion in athletes.
Posology and method of administration
- For external application.
- Adults (including the elderly) and children over 6 years : For cutaneous use Apply three times Daily to the affected area, massaging until cream is fully absorbed.
- Children under 6 yews : Not recommended.
Contraindication
- Hypersensitivity to the active substance or any of the exciptents.
- Algason should not be used if the surface of the skin is broken.
- Algason contains camphor, which can lower the epileptogenic threshold and, at excessive doses, lead to neurological accidents such as convulsions in infants and children. Therefore, Algason should not be used by children who have a history of convulsions.
- Hypersensitivity to aspirin or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (including when taken by mouth) especially where associated with a history of asthma.
- If irritation develops, use of the product should be discontinued.
Special warnings and precautions
- Consult your doctor before use if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, asthmatic or on any other medicines.
- For external use only.
- Avoid contact with eyes and sensitive areas of the skin.
- Always try on small area first. Always use sparingly.
- Some people may experience discomfort, particularly those with sensitive skin or if used in hot weather /after a hot bath.
- Temporary skin redness/burning sensation may occur. Discontinue use if excessive or unwanted effects occur.
- Not to be used on children under 6 years of age.
- If symptoms persist consult your doctor.
Interaction with other medicinal products
- There have been reports that topical salicylates may potentiate the anticoagulant effects of warfarin. It is therefore advisable that caution should be exercised with patients who are on coumarin anticoagulants.
- Salicylates (as NAIDs) may increase blood levels and therefore toxicity of methotrexate by delaying its excretion
Pregnancy and lactation
Use of the product dung pregnancy and lactation is not recommended.

Undesirable effects
- Temporary skin reactions (redness, burning sensation and rashes) may occur.
- Known side Sleets of menthol : contact dermatitis or eczema, hypersensitivity reactions characterized by urticaria, flushing and headache.
Pharmacodynamic properties
- Algason Cream contains the following ingredients : Diethytamine salicylate, Menthol and Camphor.
- Diethytamine salicylate is a topical analgesic with anti-inflammatory properties and also has counter irritant effect .
- Menthol relieves itching, dilates the vessels causing a sensation of coldness followed by an analgesic effect.
- Camphor acts as a rubefacient and mid analgesic and is employed as a counter-irritant.
Pharmacokinetic properties
After topical application small amounts of salicylic acid are detectable in the plasma. Elimination in the urine occurover a period of 48 hours .

- A box containing a tube of 40 g cream and a pamphlet.
- Storage : Keep at temperature 15 – 30°C.
