100mg Rebamipide – Mucosta for the treatment of gastritis and ulcers

Mucosta is a medicine used to treat stomach and duodenal ulcers. Mucosta also used to treat inflammation of the mucous membranes in the stomach and intestines, especially caused by analgesics (such as Diclofenac, Voltaren, Brufen, and others) or other infections such as bacterial infection and others.

Composition

Rebamipide 100 mg is the active ingredient in Mucosta.

Mechanism of Action

It works by activating COX-2 (cyclooxygenase 2), which stimulate prostaglandins production. Prostaglandins responsible for the mucus lining the stomach, thus reducing ulcers and aiding healing.

Indications

  • Treatment of gastric and duodenal ulcers.
  • Inflammation of the stomach and the mucous membranes of the intestine.
  • It is used in the treatment of hearing impairment in the elderly (uncommon use of Mucosta).

Warnings And Precautions

Mucosta should be used with caution in the following cases:

  • Liver diseases
  • Blood diseases, especially deficiency of white blood cells and platelets
  • Mucosta is likely to cause menstrual irregularities
  • Mucosta should be used with caution in the elderly (patient over 65 years old).

pregnancy and breastfeeding

Mucosta should not be used during pregnancy unless the physician considers that its benefit is greater than the expected risks. It is also not recommended for use during lactation, it is excreted in breast milk. However, when necessary for its use during lactation, it is recommended to stop breastfeeding while taking Mucosta.

The safety of using Mucosta in children has not been established, therefore it is not recommended to give it to children.

Dosage and method of use

Mucosta is taken in cases of stomach and duodenal ulcers and gastritis in a dose of one tablet three times daily before or after eating.
